Walker Creek Elementary fourth graders travel to San Antonio on an Education in Action Discover Texas Field Trip

Fourth graders from Birdville ISD's Walker Creek Elementary traveled to San Antonio on an Education in Action Discover Texas Field Trip, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, to experience what they are learning in Texas history and science at The Alamo and Natural Bridge Caverns.

At The Alamo, the young historians explored the heroes and events, including the Battle of the Alamo, that shaped our state and nation’s history during the time of the Texas Revolution. The students visited with living historians at The Alamo’s living history encampment and enjoyed hands-on demonstrations to learn about daily life during 1800s Texas including what people wore, how they looked after their health, and important skills, including fire-starting, leather working, and taking care of firearms.

Then it was off to tour Natural Bridge Caverns, the largest cavern in Texas. The students traveled 180 feet underground to tour the cavern’s massive rooms and see the physical properties of the Earth’s crust in action in the cavern’s stunning formations. They panned for gems and minerals and tested their navigation skills to see who could complete the AMAZEn' Ranch Roundup in the shortest amount of time.
